Miki Berenyi Trio – 8th Deadly Sin

The Miki Berenyi Trio’s debut single, “8th Deadly Sin,” marks the return for the former Lush frontwoman alongside KJ McKillop (Moose) and Oliver Cherer. This track, featured on their upcoming album Tripla (out April 4 via Bella Union), combines lush and dreamlike soundscapes.

“8th Deadly Sin” tackles humanity’s destructive tendencies, addressing climate crises, wars, and social intolerance with a poignant yet unpretentious perspective. As Berenyi puts it, the song reflects “humanity hurtling toward its own destruction” without sounding preachy. Musically, the track retains her signature ethereal vocal style, now layered with electronic elements and guitars.

The DIY ethos of the Miki Berenyi Trio is woven into the very fabric of the project. Recorded at home, Tripla reflects their grassroots approach, echoing a desire to create deeply personal music and free from conventional industry cycles. The album’s title is a nod to Berenyi’s Hungarian roots—Tripla translates to “triple” in Hungarian, symbolizing the collaborative effort behind the trio.

Tripla promises to be a heartfelt exploration of resilience and collaboration. “8th Deadly Sin” is a striking preview, delivering both a nostalgic nod to Berenyi’s shoegaze origins and a fresh, forward-looking sound.
